What I look for
- Someone who explains the decision, not only shows the result
- Someone who delivers on time even when it's less polished than they'd like
- Someone who takes direction and argues it, rather than executing silently
- Someone who knows their rate and says it plainly
How the work runs
- The brief is always written — never a verbal handover
- The rate is agreed before we start and not reopened
- Payment within seven days of delivery
- Your name goes with the work unless the client forbids it
